The 5 Expectations of Local Government

1.  Safety – Our local government is responsible for providing law enforcement, fire protection, emergency medical services, and the County Courthouse. Our personal safety is guaranteed by our Federal Constitutional 2nd amendment right.  These are the basics for safe and civilized living.

2.  Economic Stability – The people need to have a local economy that enables them to pay their bills and enjoy life.  This will require county policy changes to reduce regulations and permit fees.   The money the county has, comes from the people.  It’s your money, and must not be wasted.  Recent years have shown county polices are responsible for business failures.  Before the county can realize a benefit, the business must be successful first.  Clay looks forward to promoting any business that produces a physical product.  Whether it is timber, agriculture, manufacturing, or construction, these are vital for producing a robust economy.  Service based jobs alone, are insufficient.  We can’t tax ourselves into prosperity.   We must create our good economy by working for it.

3.  Environmental Cleanliness – We have a nice place to live and Clay intends to keep it that way.  Our children need us to keep the environment clean too.  Promoting increased recycling of waste materials is the right thing to do, and will create valuable products as well.

4. Freedom: Freedom is a blessing, but takes effort to preserve.  Clay knows this and will oppose any policy of the county that would be abusive or costly to the people.  The county should be supportive and have a vested interest in the success and happiness of the people.  Government should be doing only those things that the people could not easily do for themselves.  The success of a benevolent government program should not be gauged by the number of people using it, but by how many people no longer need it.

5. Basic Fairness – Clay knows that the world is not fair, but Mendocino County polices and fees should be reasonable and fair.  Like any good business, the county should provide excellent service and ensure customer satisfaction.  County government should be a joy to work with.  Mendocino County government should never treat it's people like a source of cash, but like valued customers to serve. Fairness of conduct should be so obvious, that a middle school child could determine the fairness of the situation.

Clay Romero believes in leadership anchored in service to the community, action grounded in integrity, and policies shaped by local values. A 51 year resident of the third District, Clay has served our community with great customer service and a drive to make things better for us all.
